Marble Armor FAQ
Common Questions About Stone Protection Film
What is Marble Armor?
Marble Armor is a clear protective film applied to natural stone surfaces such as marble, onyx, travertine, quartzite, and limestone. It forms a durable, surface-level barrier that prevents staining, etching, and bruising from everyday use. Unlike traditional sealers, it sits on top of the stone rather than absorbing into it—providing complete protection against both stains and acid etching.
How much does Marble Armor cost?
Marble Armor installation typically ranges from $30 to $50 per square foot, depending on the scope of the project and the current condition of the stone. This includes professional surface preparation and certified installation. Every project is different—contact us for a free assessment and estimate.
How long does Marble Armor last?
Longevity depends on the environment. In residential settings, Marble Armor typically lasts 6 to 10 years before replacement based on aesthetic preference. Commercial environments like bars and restaurants average 1 to 4 years. Hospitality settings such as hotels typically see 3 to 5 years between replacements. Replacement is straightforward and does not damage the stone underneath.
How is Marble Armor different from a traditional stone sealer?
Traditional sealers are penetrating treatments that fill the pores of stone to slow down absorption. They offer limited stain resistance and do nothing to prevent etching from acids like lemon juice, vinegar, or wine. They also need reapplication every 6 to 12 months.
Marble Armor is a physical barrier that sits on top of the stone. It prevents both staining and etching, resists scratches and bruising, and has been tested to withstand temperatures up to 400°F. It lasts years, not months.
How does Marble Armor compare to TuffSkin and StoneGuard?
Marble Armor, TuffSkin, and StoneGuard are all stone protection films designed to shield natural stone from damage. They differ in formulation, thickness, finish options, and installer networks. Marble Armor is a protective film available in glossy and honed (matte) finishes, installed exclusively by certified professionals who have completed hands-on training. The best choice depends on your specific stone, setting, and aesthetic goals—we’re happy to help you evaluate your options.
Can I install Marble Armor myself?
No. Marble Armor is not a DIY product. Proper surface preparation—including polishing, cleaning, and leveling—is critical to ensure the film adheres correctly, maintains optical clarity, and lasts as intended. All Marble Armor installations are performed by certified installers who have completed specialized training.
What surfaces can Marble Armor be applied to?
Marble Armor is designed for horizontal natural stone surfaces: kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, bar tops, dining tables, coffee tables, desks, and backsplashes. It is best suited for acid-sensitive, calcium-based stones such as marble, onyx, travertine, quartzite, and limestone. It is not designed for floor applications.
Will Marble Armor change the look of my stone?
No. Marble Armor is virtually invisible once installed. It is available in glossy and honed (matte) finishes specifically so it can match the existing look and feel of your stone. The natural color, veining, and character of the material are fully preserved.
Does Marble Armor self-heal scratches?
Yes. Light scratches in the Marble Armor film will self-heal within 20 to 30 minutes at room temperature. In cooler conditions, or to speed up the process, pouring warm water (around 120°F) over the affected area will accelerate healing. Deep cuts or gouges from sharp objects will not self-heal and may require a section replacement by your certified installer.
